Former Italian Minister of Health Wins European Smokefree
Progress Award
Former Italian Minister of Health Professor Girolamo Sirchia beat finalists from seven other countries to receive the award for European Smokefree Progress 2008. The Award recognizes the achievements of politicians who have made a contribution to smokefree policy in Europe.
Professor Sirchia?s greatest achievement was his campaign for a smoking ban in all indoor public places in Italy ? ?Sirchia Law?, which was introduced in January 2003. He also contributed to the fight against smoking related diseases such as chronic respiratory disease, chronic bronchitis and lung cancer. He was nominated for the award by 6 different people. |
