Purpose of the
evaluation tool
The aim of the evaluation tool is to improve
the quality of smoking cessation websites.
The tool supports practical planning and
needs assessment of the cessation websites.
It is possible to complement or improve
existing functions of the website by means of the tool. It
also serves when developing new functions and features for
the website.
The checklists of the tool can also be used
as practical support when constructing a completely new smoking
cessation website.
We have used the same background material
and methodology for the evaluation tool and the guidelines.
For further information, please see the link Guidelines,
section 1. Background.
For whom?
The evaluation tool is meant for organizations
and service providers responsible for smoking cessation websites.
It can also be useful for smoking cessation experts and e-Health
specialists working with other health issues connected to
internet.
The tool is planned primarily for
self-evaluation, but some parts can also be used for external
evaluation.
Background organizations
The tool has been developed under
the auspices of The European Commission New Public Health
Programme 2003-2008, in the project “Smoking cessation
on the Internet in the European Union countries 2005-2007”.
Funds for the project were allocated
by the European
Network of Smoking Prevention, ENSP to
the National
Public Health Institute of Finland, KTL. The
European Network of Quitlines, ENQ has
acted as a coordinator between the ENSP and the National Public Health Institute of Finland (KTL), which has undertaken
the main practical responsibility in designing the evaluation
tool.
